END CHILD MARRIAGE
In Nigeria the fact that people have to protest for the most basic and self-explanatory things just defines the country as a whole. A backhanded patriarchal state, one that has only ever done things that benefit a particular culture, gender, and Sex.
A country as big as Nigeria one of the largest countries in the biggest continent still falls short in providing fundamental rights that benefit the girl child always providing barriers to limit their dreams and careers.
ALLOW THE GIRL CHILD DREAM, ALLOW HER TO GROW, ALLOW HER TO FLOURISH. A CHILD IS NOT FOR MARRIAGE. END CHILD MARRIAGE, END CHILD MARRIAGE. A CHILD SHOULD NOT BE LIMITED TO MARRIAGE.
As we continue to fight for the freedom of our girl child, let's not falter or lose hope freedom will be ours. It doesn't matter how we get it but at least we got it.
On Tuesday the Nigerian Senate passed a law “Anyone caught having sexual intercourse with a Minor will be sentenced to LIFE IMPRISONMENT” Yes you can say we've finally made progress but this isn't a legit law until it's enforced. So we won't just stop at the “law” being put out. Not only in Nigeria in most African countries we still have child marriages going on. In Somalia, a law was passed to end child marriage but later reversed. Why so? If you must ask because they are men who will rather marry children than actual adults. Why make laws NOW WHY NOW AFTER ALL THESE YEARS? WHY SHOULD LAWS BE SET FOR BASIC HUMAN REASONING? Well unfortunately that’s the situation we women saw ourselves in but no situation is irreversible. So we won't give up. We will keep fighting for our rights and the rights of our children until we are FREE.
